The demands of today’s society for greater specialization have brought about a profound transformation in the humanities, which are not immune to the competitive pressure to meet new challenges that are present in other sectors. Thus, lecturers and researchers in modern languages and applied linguistics departments have made great efforts to design syllabi and materials more attuned to the competences and requirements of potential working environments. Cet ouvrage, accompagné d'un résumé en anglais de chaque chapitre, explore les liens entre comportements discursifs, contextes et valeurs culturelles à partir de plusieurs corpus d'interactions authentiques en anglais et en français. Il se donne pour objectif de mettre en évidence la spécificité culturelle de certains usages langagiers et les problèmes de communication qui en résultent en situation interculturelle. Pour ce faire, il s'appuie tour à tour sur l'approche comparative des interactions et sur l'analyse des malentendus interculturels. Les apports descriptifs de différents modèles d'analyse sont présentés et discutés, en particulier ceux de l'analyse pragmatique des interactions et de l'analyse conversationnelle. Trois phénomènes particulièrement sensibles à la variation culturelle font chacun l'objet d'un chapitre : la gestion des tours de parole, les aspects rituels des échanges et la formulation des actes de langage directifs. Dans un chapitre de synthèse, l'auteure brosse, à partir des résultats des analyses précédentes, les profils contrastés des ethos communicatifs des deux communautés étudiées.
The author proposes a theory of legal translation the aim of which is to formulate postulates and dimensions used to characterize legal texts and their component parts for the purpose of establishing relevant meanings and choosing proper translative equivalents for a selected legal communicative community of translation recipients.
